These medals are made by the Sisters of Bethlehem. They live in a monastery in Bet Shemesh (30 km from Gaza and on the midway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem). On the hill of Bet Gemal (“the house of Gamaliel”). In the 5th century the relics of the 1st Christian martyr were found there: Saint Stephen. According to an ancient Judeo-Christian tradition, Saint Stephen was buried on the property of the famous rabbi Gamaliel, the teacher of Paul of Tarse, and a member of the Sanhedrin, with Nicodeme. From there the name of the place.

The nuns live in relative isolation, dedicated to prayer, and live from charity and from the artwork they produce, handmade, like these precious medals.
